Zines 4 Peace
Join together to make Zines 4 Peace! Don’t know what a zine is? Don’t know how to make one? That’s okay, we’ll teach you! Create zines with your ideas and visions of community, religious cohesion, restorative justice, and nonviolent resistance to build WORLD PEACE! Submit your zines afterwards to be placed in a university research collection! You will learn about these topics and then have a chance to showcase your ideas through creative expression and information sharing. Anyone and everyone is welcome. From Our Inner Peace, Peace to Those Suffering
Participants are invited to a meditation intended to connect with the highest forces of good in the world. We will start with a grounding practice so that our body becomes a prayer before we embark on a silent meditation. Next, a Circle will be formed where all are invited to bring forth a prayer to the world which starts with the words: “Thank you.” The two other elements of this prayer will be that it is said in a positive way and in the present tense. Samples with be given in advance for guidance only. Participants are invited to bring their own wisdom for world peace. Paper and pencils will be available. This in-person session is intended as a gift to the world for peace in the most troubled areas of the planet. Charito Calvachi-Mateyko, a Restorative Justice professional and Circle Keeper, will be the facilitator. |

Envision Peace with Mary Wimberley & Motivational Musician Ginger Coyle
Awakened Heart’s Spiritual Director, Mary Wimberley, RScP, will lead the commUnity in a meditative spiritual practice called Visioning. Members will be prompted to ask questions of their divine selves to how the Divine Spirit sees Peace unfolding in our personal lives, our commUnity, and the world itself. The group will have an opportunity to share their visions with each other and notice revelations, possible synchronicities, and perhaps even inspiring sacred action. Visioning is one of the three pillars of the Awakened Heart commUnity that is centered in the Science of Mind spiritual philosophy. MUSICIAN GINGER COYLE is a spiritual activist and singer songwriter. Her new record “Higher Frequency” explores personal vibrations through the chakras and invites humanity to take responsibility for their contribution to the collective frequency. Offering keynote concerts that combine the music of Higher Frequency with metaphysical insights, Ginger is bringing her message of empowerment, healing, and unity to retreats, conferences, and educational settings around Philly and beyond. Helping Native Plants Thrive in Talley Day Park
Please join us October 18th at Talley Day Park for a Peace Day Park Cleanup! We will be learning about native and invasive plants from Leah Brooks, a certified Delaware Master Naturalist and and avid eco-gardener, who will help us identify invasive plants that are not peaceful to our community. We will work together to remove the invasive species so that our native friends can flourish. Meet by the dog park in the back of the park. We’ll have trash bags, water, and snacks. Please bring gardening gloves, and if you have them, clippers to cut back the invasive plants growing in the park. Bring your family and help make Talley Day Park look beautiful! No rain date. |

Peace Of Pizza
Join this year’s city-wide celebration of peace, pizza, community, and music at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Trolley Square on October 17. Come for the pizza, stay for the fun. For Peace in Our Hearts: Labyrinth Walk with Sound Bath
One way to nurture inner peace is through mindful practice, such as meditation. This event offers two highly effective practices, providing an extraordinary opportunity to experience them together. Walking the Labyrinth is a “moving meditation” engaging mind, body, and spirit as you walk the path at your own pace. A Sound Bath uses sound and vibration to guide and support your meditation. Guided Tours of New Castle Court House Museum
Guided tours of the building are offered at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. Tours are free with no registration required. Staff will guide visitors through the history of the courthouse and its involvement in Delaware’s colonization, statehood, and laws. One major piece of the building’s history involves the Fugitive Slave Act trials of John Hunn and Thomas Garrett, Delaware Quaker abolitionists. Tai Chi at the Fraim Center for Active Adults
The Fraim Center for Active Adults invites you to start your Peace Week morning with a Tai Chi class on Wednesday, October 15th, at 8:20 am. Tai Chi helps improve balance, flexibility, and strength, while reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm and focus—a perfect way to bring peace to both body and mind. The class will be led by our instructor, Barbara McAnany. If the weather’s good, the class will be held outside near the back parking lot, under the trees. If not, class will be held in the large gym. This class is open to individuals 50 years of age and older. No Tai Chi experience is required. Comfortable clothes are suggested. Finding Peace Through Finding Common Ground - Braver Angels Delaware Alliance Presents the Trustworthy Elections Report (Hybrid)
Braver Angels Trustworthy Elections Initiative: how conservatives and liberals came together and found agreement on how to restore trust in our elections. In this presentation, you’ll learn how Braver Angels, a volunteer organization focused on bridging the partisan divide and strengthening our democratic republic, brought conservatives and liberals together and found agreement on how to restore trust in our elections. Members of the Braver Angels Delaware Alliance will share the process and results of the Trusted Elections Initiative. Come to learn ways to bridge the partisan divide with respect for all. Composting for Community
Are you interested in positive ways to connect with neighbors? Are you interested in direct climate action that your community can take? Becoming a Poverty Abolitionist
Participants are invited to join a zoom-based gathering of community advocates who share a vision of justice, peace and dignity for all Delawareans. The gathering will include reflections on systems that oppress and tether people in poverty as well as information about abolition work going on in Delaware and visions of what else needs to be done. Goals for the zoom gathering are to strengthen networks of community advocates, exchange resources, and inspire those who want to be more involved. The work of Reverend Dr. William J. Barber II will be included among the reflections. A discussion of his recent book White Poverty: How Exposing Myths About Race and Class Can Reconstruct American Democracy will be the focus. Peace Pole Rededication at First Unitarian Church of Wilmington
Join us in the rededication of our Peace Pole at the First Unitarian Church of Wilmington just outside the front entrance on Whitby Drive immediately following the worship service. (See related PWD event announcement for the worship service the “Art of Peace”). The FUCW Peace Pole was installed in 2021 with the message of “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in 8 languages, including Lenape.
